International Conference on Scientometrics & Informetrics was held at Wuhan University

On October 17th, 2017, the 16th International Conference on Scientometrics & Informetrics hosted by Wuhan University, International Society for Scientometrics and Informetrics and Chinese Association for Science and S&T Policy, and organized by Research Center for China Science Evaluation, was held in Wuhan, attracting about 200 experts and scholars engaged in metrology from 33 countries and areas.

The report topics of this conference involved the theoretical system of metrology, the theory and method of data science, mapping and visualization, patent analysis, science of science and science policy as well as co-occurrence analysis, and over 300 papers were received. The reports of the conference and sessions fully showed the frontier of the current international research on metrology and provided an opportunity of knowledge communication and interaction for researchers engaged in related fields at home and abroad.

In the opening ceremony, Professor Li Fei, the vice president of Wuhan University, Professor Cassidy R. Sugimoto from Indiana University in the U.S., the president of ISSI, Fang Xin, the researcher and honorary president of Chinese Association for Science and S&T Policy, Professor Qiu Junping, the executive president of 2017 International Conference on Scientometrics & Informetrics made speeches respectively. Professor Zhao Rongying, the director of Research Center for China Science Evaluation, and Li Menghui, the researcher from Beijing Institute of Science and Technology Information, delivered a keynote speech respectively.

This conference adopted several forms including conference report, complete paper report in session, keynote report in seminar and doctoral forum, so as to provide an academic communicative opportunity for participants, and make all the experts and scholars from international and nationwide associations have a multifaceted interaction with those who made reports at the conference.

It is said that the International Conference on Scientometrics & Informetrics is the most influential international conference of highest academic level in the fields of bibliometrics, informetrics, scientometrics, cybermetrics and knowledge metrology, which is held every 2 years, attracting numerous experts and scholars working in metrology and related fields around the world. Those who want to become the host organizations of the conference should submit an application in advance of 4 years and conduct the handover 2 years ahead. The Research Center for China Science Evaluation of Wuhan University applied for the right to host the 16th ISSI Conference and was approved in Vienna in 2013. In 2015, the handover of the right to host was completed in Turkey. The success of the conference shows that Wuhan University has won the international approval for its research on metrology.
