The minutes of the Journal Development Meeting of School of Information Management

In the evening of May 26th, the Journal Development Meeting of School of Information Management (SIM), Wuhan University was held in 205 meeting room of our school. The experts outside our university in attendance included Mr. Huang Changzhu, the researcher and member of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Professor He Defang, the head of the Department of Policies, Regulation and Supervision of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the adjunct professor of Wuhan University, Professor Zhang Bin, the dean of School of Information Resource Management, Renmin University, Professor Cao Shujin from School of Information Management, Sun Yat-sen University, Professor Wei Jingzhu, the dean assistant of School of Information Management, Sun Yat-sen University, Professor Li Guangjian, the head of the Department of Information Management, Peking University, Professor Wang Yuguang from the Department of Information Management, Peking University, Professor Xie Xinzhou, the head of School of New Media, Peking University, Professor Wu Ping, the vice principal of Huazhong Agricultural University, and Professor Li Yuhai, the dean of School of Information Management, Central China Normal University.

The experts in attendance from Wuhan University included Professor Ma Feicheng, the senior professor in humanities and social sciences and chief editor of Data and Information Management, Professor Chen Chuanfu, the head of Graduate School of Wuhan University and chief editor of Documentation, Information & Knowledge, Professor Fang Qing, the dean of the SIM and chief editor of Publishing Journal, Professor Li Gang, the director of the Center of the Studies for Information Resources and chief editor of Journal of Information Resources Management, Professor Huang Ruhua and Professor Lu Wei, the deputy deans of the SIM. Besides, the executive editors, deputy editor as well as full-time and part-time editors of 4 Chinese and English journals taken charge of by the Journal Center of School of Information Management, Wuhan University also attended the meeting. The meeting was presided over by Professor Zhou Yaolin, the deputy dean of the SIM, Wuhan University.

Professor Fang Qing first gave a short speech and briefly introduced the origin, development, and academic influence of the 4 journals of the Journal Center of School of Information Management to the experts. Professor Ma Feicheng, Professor Chen Chuanfu and Professor Li Gang respectively introduced the features, columns of Data and Information Management, Documentation, Information & Knowledge and Journal of Information Resources Management and the problems these 3 journals faced, and solicited the suggestions from the experts in attendance about the question of journal development and improvement like how to better position the journals to form their features, how to receive high-quality papers to improve their academic quality, how to make use of omnimedia to better propagate the journals and how to better let the platforms come into play in the process of Double First-Class discipline development.

Professor Li Gang actively requested papers from the experts on behalf of the Journal of Information Resources Management.

In the meeting, the experts affirmed the journals of the Journal Center of School of Information Management, Wuhan University and pointed out that due to the academic influence of the journals and the current communication environment, to make development and improve substantially, more active efforts needed to be done. For example, high-quality passages about significant academic problems could be published to strengthen the journals’ more extensive academic influence, and academic papers around the frontiers of all fields could be published to make the 4 journals one step ahead other journals. Besides, what is unique and special should be accumulated to make the 4 journals different from other journals in the topic selection and style formation. The experts agreed on publishing book reviews: first, increase the length of book reviews; second, cautiously choose the authors and books of book reviews. In this meeting, the chief editors of the 4 journals actively requested papers from the experts in attendance and young teachers of our school.

Mr. Huang Changzhu made several suggestions for the journal development.

It is said that the Journal Center of School of Information Management has 4 English and Chinese journals, among which Publishing Journal and Documentation, Information & Knowledge are CSSCI source journals, and the Journal of Information Resources Management is extended edition of CSSCI source journals. Data and Information Management is English journal created in 2017.
