National Laboratory for Library and Information Science Education, formerly known as the Library and Information Experiement Center, established in 1988, belonged to School of Library and Information Science, Wuhan University. In 2001, it became the first “Qualified Basic Experiement Center” of liberal arts in Hubei Province after the expert review organized by the Hubei Provincial Department of Education. In the same year, it was officially renamed as “Wuhan University Library and Information Experiment Teaching Center”. In 2007, it was approved as “Hubei Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center”. In 2012, it was approved as a national library and information experimental teaching demonstration center.


Based on the experimental teaching and practice of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, the center serves for the first-level disciplines of “Library Information and Archives Management” and “Management Science and Engineering” of School of Information Management, Wuhan University. Meanwhile, it provides “information literacy” courses for all students of Wuhan University, and strives to cultivate students' information ability and enhance their information literacy.


The experiment center has basic experiment rooms, open experiment rooms, and professional experiment rooms. Each year, about 50 experimental courses are held and about 200 experimental projects are carried out. The average number of students serving each year is about 1,500, and the number of experimental people per year is more than 100,000.
