On October 21, the report of Global Digital Economy Development Index 2023 (GDEDI 2023) was successfully released in the East Lake Forum. GDEDI 2023 showed that the scale of digital economy in Hubei province has rapidly increased in recent years and has become an important engine of economic development.

GDEDI 2023 was jointly compiled by the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China, and Wuhan University. Zhiyun Zhao, CPC Secretary and Director of the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China, said that in the process of promoting Chinese modernization with the "four innovations" as the core, the digital economy has gradually become the "new engine" for national and regional economic growth.

The Global Digital Economy Development Index comprehensively and systematically depicts the current global digital economy development pattern from three aspects: country-region-city, from five dimensions: digital infrastructure, digital elements, digital industrialization, industrial digitalization and digital economy development environment, through 13 secondary indicators, 39 tertiary indicators and multidimensional data.

Zhiyun Zhao said that preliminary analysis showed that from the national level, the top three countries in the world in terms of digital economy development index were the United States of America, South Korea and China; From the perspective of typical cities, the top three cities in the world were San Francisco, New York and Beijing. From the perspective of 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities in China, the top 10 provinces and municipalities were Beijing, Guangdong, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shandong, Tianjin, Hubei, Sichuan and Fujian.

GDEDI 2023 showed that the digital economy gap between China and the United States of America was mainly reflected in two aspects: digital industrialization and industrial digitalization. In terms of digital industrialization, China leads the world in the scale of digital economy core industries, while the United States has a small scale of digital economy core industries, but the advantages of emerging industries are outstanding. In terms of industrial digitalization, China leads the world in industrial digitalization, while the United States has outstanding advantages in service digitalization.

According to the GDEDI 2023, in recent years, the scale of Hubei's digital economy has increased rapidly, exceeding CNY 2 trillion in 2022, accounting for nearly 5% of China's digital economy; It accounts for 44.7% of Hubei's GDP and has become an important engine of Hubei's economic development. Zhiyun Zhao said that the comprehensive strength of Hubei's digital economy development ranks first in central China, with three main advantages: firstly, Hubei's digital factor resources rank among the top in the country, and the number of data exchanges and trading centers ranks third in the country; Secondly, the core industry of Hubei digital economy leads the central region; Thirdly, the accelerated integration of digital technology and industry in Hubei, with leading scene advantages. The number of intelligent manufacturing demonstration factories and the number of top 100 Internet hospitals rank among the top in the country.
