报告内容:Within the data management community legacy born digital data since the 1960s becomes an increasing problem. Research data centres or memory organisations are receiving more and more old legacy media (punch cards, magnet tapes, floppy disks, streamer tapes, external hard drives, etc.) which cannot be processed with modern computer systems neither in hardware nor in software. Nevertheless, they might include highly important scientific or administrative data which must be extracted and brought into modern formats. The retro computer lab at the University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons processes such requests with a collection of 150 historic computers including periphery, but unfortunately despite constant repairs these old machines are deteriorating over time as they were never built for a long-term purpose. This talk will present some options how to solve these issues with software emulation, hardware emulation or reconstruction of previous computers. It will also give an outlook on the growing retro and vintage computer scene in social media and its cultural impact. Of course - we will also sidestep into the history of computer and video games as these are the data most requested by the public.
