· About the History of Branch Library
In 1910, Ms. Wei Dihua founded Wenhua Public Books Room at Tan Hua Lin, Wuchang.
In 1920, Ms. Wei Dihua and Shen Zurong, guru of library science, founded Department of Library Science of Wenhua University, which was the first library education institution in China. Wenhua Public Books Room was used as its internship base and library.
Until 1929, Shen Zurong was admitted to develop the Department of Library Science to Wenhua Library College.
In 1953, Wenhua Library College was incorporated into Wuhan University. All books and resources were also incorporated into Wuhan University.
In 1956, it was called Reference Room of the Department of Library Science.
In 1984, it was rebuilt and enlarged, renamed as Reference Room of the School of Library and Information Science.
During 1999 and 2000, it was merged with the School of Journalism, and renamed as Reference Room of the School of Mass Communication and Knowledge Information Management.
In 2009, it was renamed as Reference Room of the School of Information Management, also known as Branch Library of School of Information Management.
· About the Collection and Features of Branch Library
The library's professional collections rank first in the national peers, and now it is a comprehensive library focusing on five subjects which are library science, information management science, publishing science, information system and e-commerce, archives and government information science. It has collected more than 170,000 copies of Chinese and foreign literatures, 18 kinds of newspapers, more than 8,000 Chinese and foreign language reference books, 730 old-type thread-stitched book volumes and 550 books, and more than 200 Chinese periodicals and more than 40 original foreign periodicals annually. It has established exchanges of books and periodicals with partners in the US, Japan, Russia and other countries.
The Special Literature Collection of Wenhua Library College is the most complete silent testimony for the birth of modern China's library science, archival science and the subject education.
