In order to guide teenagers to develop good reading habits, master correct reading methods and set up correct values, on February 22, 6 students of our school, including Lingshuang Guan, Chenrui Li, Wei Feng, Shunxin Xie, Yahui Xu and Jing Liu, combined with professional knowledge, held a uniqueReading Sharing Meetingwith more than 60 elementary school students from grade three to six of Enshi Baiguoshu Elementary School in Bajiao Dong Township, Enshi City, Hubei Province, on reading methods and reading experience.

Teachers of Enshi Baiguoshu Elementary School, including Yang Xiang, Min Shang, Tingsong Wei, Yuanbin Gao, Liangyi Xie and Yanmei Hu, attended the meeting. Ting Lei, Deputy Secretary of the Youth League Committee of our school, postgraduate counselor, and Zeyu Lu, a doctoral student of our school, also a volunteer of the 2018 Wuhan University Western Plan who assisted in teaching at Enshi Baiguoshu Elementary School for one year, offered great support to this meeting.

Yahui Xu, a member of the Presidium of the SIM Postgraduate Student Union, a member of the 22nd Wuhan University Supporting Education Group, presided over the sharing meeting. Chenrui Li shared the story ofTeKo by the Window, and encouraged the students to fully release their nature, always keep a simple and childlike heart, and explore the world with curiosity. Wei Feng introduced The Life of Candle byThe Story of Candle, including how it is produced and composed, how the candle burns and what will happen after burning, and how the components in the surrounding air interact with candles during burning to stimulate students' interest in scientific knowledge. By sharing the bookThe Story of Madame Curie, Jing Liu shared with students the elegant demeanor of Madame Curie, a legendary woman, and encouraged the students to persist in what they love and work hard for it. Shunxin Xie recitedRed Tideby Qu Qiubai and shared the bookRereading the Poems of Martyrs, which led the students to experience the lofty ideals and firm beliefs of revolutionary martyrs.

In the reading sharing session, the students of Enshi Baiguoshu Elementary School actively exchanged their thoughts on reading during the winter vacation. FromRomance of the Three Kingdoms, one of the Four Great Classical Novels, toIf Give Me Three Days of Light, a foreign classic book, fromSeven-syllable Regulated Verse·Long March, a red revolutionary poem, toSpring in Beijing, a lyrical essay, students read extensively, reflecting the diversity of reading contents. Students expressed their personal feelings in combination with the reading, or imagined their future study and life, or expressed their high respect for the revolutionary martyrs. From time to time, bursts of cheers and applause sounded at the scene.

Teacher Min Shang summarized this activity. She hoped that while reading, students could also summon up courage and share the wonderful story with others. Other teachers also fully affirmed the effect of this reading sharing meeting and expressed their expectation for the next sharing. Zeyu Lu had a cordial exchange with the students, he reminded them to wash their hands frequently, wear masks and abide by the relevant regulations on epidemic prevention and control.

Baiguoshu Village, Bajiao Dong Township, Enshi City is Wuhan University’s pairing support unit, in which education assistance is an important part of targeted poverty alleviation. The volunteer service team of our school organized representatives of teachers and students to Enshi Baiguoshu Elementary School to carry out activities such as popularizing scientific knowledge of book classification, library investigation, charity donation and so on. The reading sharing meeting with Enshi Baiguoshu Elementary School has been held for the second time. In the next step, the volunteer service team will further combine with professional advantages, pilot the information literacy improvement plan for Enshi Baiguoshu Elementary School students, and carry out special volunteer services such as teach students how to use search engine, so as to contribute to the construction of Baiguoshu Village.
