Yuting Song, a 2017-grade Undergraduate of the School of Information Management, was Chosen as the First Volunteers of the UNV-CYVA Chinese Youth Volunteer Overseas Volunteering Program

On December 19, the Departure Ceremony and Symposium of UNV-CYVA Chinese Youth Volunteer Overseas Volunteering Program was held at Songjiang Campus of Shanghai International Studies University,  seven undergraduate students from Wuhan University, Shanghai International Studies University, Nanjing University, Zhejiang University, Jiangxi Normal University, Sun Yat-sen University and Chongqing University participated in the departure ceremony. Yuting Song, a 2017-grade undergraduate majored in Archival Science of our school, as the only volunteer of Wuhan University, participated in the departure ceremony. After the ceremony, they were going to depart for United Nations agencies in Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, India, Turkey, the United States and other countries. Yuting Song would go to the United Nations Volunteers Organization's office in Yangon, Myanmar for a six-month volunteer service.

 

As the only volunteer of Wuhan University, Yuting Song had rich volunteer experience. She registered as a Chinese youth volunteer during high school. At Wuhan University, she was active in various large-scale activities of the university and school community volunteer service site. She also co-organized various hometown volunteer services with alumni to explore practical ways for university students’ volunteer program to develop their hometown. The experience of participating in the Model UN conferences hosted by Wuhan University and China Foreign Affairs University has had continuously deepened her understanding of the United Nations and the Transforming our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

 

For the upcoming UN volunteer program, Yuting Song expressed her full expectations. She hoped that in the 6-month volunteer program, she could successfully complete all tasks and fully demonstrate the spirit of "dedication, friendship, mutual assistance, and progress" of Chinese youth volunteer.

About UNV-CYVA Chinese Youth Volunteer Overseas Volunteering Program

 

UNV-CYVA Chinese Youth Volunteer Overseas Volunteering Program is a voluntary service program implemented by the Chinese Young Volunteers Association and the United Nations Volunteer Organization (UNV), which aims at further expanding channels for university students and Chinese youth volunteers to participate in international exchanges by choosing Chinese youth volunteers to go to United Nations agencies, especially countries of “One Belt One Road/The Belt and Road Initiative” project, to carry out international volunteer services. It is expected to showcase Chinese image, make a Chinese voice and contribute to Chinese power by using youth volunteer services as a carrier, which will better serve the national strategy and the overall situation of party, government, and foreign affairs.
