On October 28th, CPC Secretary Xingrong Fu, CPC Deputy Secretary Qian Dai, Associate Dean Lihong Zhou and some doctoral students went to the University of York and the University of Sheffield for an exchange.
On October 29th, the Department of Computer Science of the University of York and our School held an exchange meeting on cooperation intent. On the side of the University of York, Ambrose Field, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Global Strategy, Andy Dougill, Dean of the Faculty of Sciences, Iain Bate, Head of the Department of Computer Science, Dr. Nick Pears, Dr. Xinwei Fang and Dr. Pengcheng Liu attended the exchange meeting.
At the meeting, the University of York extended a warm welcome to our School delegation, and the relevant heads introduced in detail the latest progress and research results of the Faculty of Sciences, the Department of Computer Science and affiliated research groups.
Xingrong Fu expressed his gratitude to the University of York, and introduced the discipline construction, teaching staff, scientific research achievements and student training of our School. The two sides conducted in-depth discussions and exchanges on the education issues of their disciplines respectively, and agreed to jointly promote the in-depth cooperation between the two institutes in personnel training, scientific research and teaching, and create a new joint education model to provide students with a broader development platform and more learning opportunities.
On October 30th, our delegation had an exchange with the teaching faculty of the Information School, University of Sheffield. Briony Birdy, Head of the Information School and Professor of Library and Information Science, Michelle Nicholson, Department Manager, Dr. Angela Lin, Dr. Sharon Wagg, and Dr. Pamela Abbott attended the meeting. The two sides fully exchanged views on key issues such as international cooperation, personnel training and academic exchanges, and indicated that they would explore new possibilities, share resources, promote joint research and enhance both sides’ global impact and competitiveness on the basis of further strengthening current scientific research exchange and cooperation projects.
At the Sino-British Doctoral Symposium 2024 Bridging Theory and Practice: Innovations in Information and Journalism in Digital Age, which was co-sponsored by the University of Sheffield and Wuhan University, Xiaziyu Zhang, Zengmin Wang, Yan Gao and Qinquan Dai presented their research results respectively, and had interactions with attendants. Xiaziyu Zhang and her advisor Professor Yujue Wang’s research Unveiling cognitive function involved in user engagement during playing a serious game: evidence from EEG signals won the Best Poster Award.
The University of York and the University of Sheffield are affiliated to the Russell Group, and they are important academic members of Worldwide Universities Network, N8 Research Partnership, European University Association. Computer Science of the University of York is among the top list in UK, and the library and information management of the University of Sheffield has ranked first in the QS World University Rankings by Subject.
