From May 8 to May 9, the Fifth National University General Education Alliance Annual Meeting was held in Wuhan University. The course Big Data and Information Societywhich is mainly taught by Yiming Zhao and other 15 classes, including 8 basic general classes of Classic Guidance of Humanities and Social Sciencesand Classic Guidance of Natural Science, were selected as observation classes. The observation classes were available for more than 400 participants from more than 120 universities in China to attend and study.
In the observation class Big Data and Information Society, Yiming Zhao started the topic of Scientific and Technological Revolution and Human Social Evolutionwith the introduction of “Why does human society progress?”. He led students to observe the evolution of human society from the perspective of scientific and technological revolution, and guided students to understand the essence of the new generation of information technology driven economic and social development represented by big data from the perspective of productivity change. In the second session of the class, the students' presentations entitledIntroduction to Technology in Data Scienceand Big Data and Humanitieswere carried out, and the selection of My Favorite Class Presentation of this semester was carried out. The PPT displayed by all students this semester has also been pushed in the WeChat official account of Big Data and Information Society.
Big Data and Information Societyis one of the first batch of core general education courses in Wuhan University, which is jointly taught by Yiming Zhao, Jiang Wu, Liang Hong and Cheng Zeng. Since its opening in September 2018, the course has had a good social influence. It has been reported by the official WeChat account of Wuhan University and many other universities have observed and investigated the course.
