First of all, Jingli Chu defined the concepts and relationships of research integrity, academic ethics, academic misconduct, and academic norms, and he pointed out that research misconduct and improper research are different concepts, which should be clearly defined. He also analyzed the specific issues of split publication and publishing the same content separately in Chinese and English journals.

As for the origin of academic misconduct, Jingli Chu thought that there were both external and internal factors. The external factors include the lack of research integrity environment, the pressure of organization ranking competition, and the unreasonable talent evaluation system. The internal factors include lack of scientific research ability and level, lack of understanding of academic norms, lack of moral constraints and so on.
