“What historical details are contained in the theme paintings?”
“Can the scene be reappeared through deep excavation?”
“How to touch history in the crisscross of light and shadow?”
“How can we deeply perceive the hardships and difficulties of the Communist Party of China along the way?”
...
In a special lecture, Ziyang Weng, Associate Professor at the Publishing Science Department of the SIM answered the above questions.
On June 20, a lecture with the theme of Victory Prelude in Oil Paintingswas held on the third floor of Wanlin Art Museum of Wuhan University. Many students came to listen to the lecture, and the atmosphere was very warm. At the beginning of the lecture, Ziyang Weng showed a large number of historical pictures related to the battle of crossing the Yangtze River. With the help of the pictures, Ziyang Weng specially mentioned a small detail—— many of the boatmen who helped the PLA cross the river were ordinary people. Therefore, to some extent, the victory of the river crossing campaign was rowed by ordinary people in small boats.
Then, Ziyang Weng took oil paintings such as Million Lions Rushing down to Chiang-Nan, Crossing the Natural Moat, Occupy the Presidential Palaceas examples, and deeply analyzed the composition of the works through semantic mining. In particular, Ziyang Weng explained the panoramic composition, inverted "T" structure and color contrast of Occupy the Presidential Palaceto the students in details, leading them to feel the revolutionary romantic spirit contained in the oil painting.
After the lecture, the students expressed that they had benefited a lot.
Wei Zhou, a graduate student of 2020 Publishing major believed that Ziyang Weng led students to review the battle of crossing the Yangtze River from the perspective of unique interpretation of pictures and scenes, and let students enjoy and study the theme series of paintings by emotional guidance to appreciate the grand momentum, which not only broadens their perspective of reading Chinese historical oil paintings, but also cultivates their patriotic feelings of loving the Party.
Ziqi Zhou, Youth League branch Secretary of the 2019 Digital Publishing, said that Ziyang Weng's lecture made them realize how oil painting highlights the revolutionary spirit and shapes the images of the Party history through lines, structure and light and shadow, and how the details of the Chinese revolution are conveyed to the viewers through oil painting, which is precisely the subtlety of oil painting as a learning carrier of Party history.
This activity was an important measure for the Department of Publishing Science to promote the study and education of Party history and innovate the ideological and political construction of curriculum. “We have been thinking about how to integrate Publishing courses with ideological and political courses all along. It is undoubtedly a good exploration for Ziyang Weng to use semantic technology to mine the content of theme oil paintings. In the next step, we will give full play to the professional characteristics of the Publishing discipline, optimize the curriculum design, integrate more ideological and political elements in a more popular way, and better implement the fundamental task of moral education.” said by Jie Xu, Director of the Department of Publishing Science.
