From July 2 to 4, the First National Publishing Doctoral Academic Consortium was held in Wuhan University. The Doctoral Consortium focused on the construction of Publishing discipline and the cultivation of high-end innovative talents in the Publishing industry, it centered on the theme of Integrity, Innovation, Integration and Development. More than 90 experts, scholars and authors exchanged and discussed the frontier topics concerned by the Publishing industry, such as the construction of Publishing discipline, the cultivation of talents, and the high-quality development of journals.

Ping Wu, Vice President of Wuhan University, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. She pointed out that this doctoral academic consortium was a test of the achievements of doctoral education in Publishing in China, and was of great significance to promote the development of Publishing discipline and the cultivation of Publishing talents. She hoped that young scholars and doctoral and postgraduate students in Publishing discipline could make friends, discuss and launch a number of innovative achievements of great theoretical significance and practical value with the help of academic consortium and other platforms.

Chuanfu Chen, Dean of the Graduate School of Wuhan University, delivered a speech.

Jie Xu, Director of the Department of Publishing Science of the SIM, read out Wuhan Initiative to Promote the High-quality Development of Publishing Disciplines. The initiative was discussed and adopted by the national Publishing professional leaders and the editors of core journals. It is proposed to gather consensus in discipline construction, talent training, teaching staff, industry-university-research exchanges and cooperation, so as to promote the development of Publishing disciplines with Chinese characteristics.

In the keynote speech session, Professor Dan Huang at Zhejiang University pointed out that the digital age has brought "unprecedented changes" in communication paradigm, social form and knowledge production mode. We should re-examine the discipline system on the premise of understanding the media, taking digital thinking as the starting point and interdisciplinary as the breakthrough.

Professor Qing Fang at Wuhan University believed that we should attach great importance to the role of the development of Publishing industry in the new era in building philosophy and social sciences with Chinese characteristics. Publishing is an important force in the construction of academic discourse. We should not only pay attention to the development of Publishing industry, especially academic Publishing industry, but also pay attention to the construction of Publishing discipline and teachers.

Professor Weihua Zhou at Renmin University of China started from the theme of this consortium and pointed out that Publishing must carry out discipline revolution and establish a new scientific research paradigm.

Professor Pin Li at Communication University of China put forward a new theoretical framework of Editing and Publishing around the four keywords of "editing, publishing, information and knowledge" and their relationship.

Professor Zhiqiang Zhang at Nanjing University believed that a good Publishing research should make great efforts in topic selection, materials and demonstration, especially return to the original intention of the research.

After the keynote reports, the participants carried out sub-forum discussions on five themes, including Publishing Discipline System Construction and Industrial Development, Academic Exchange and Communication Research, Publishing Integration and Knowledge Service Research, Publishing History and Book History Researchand Socialized Reading Research.

Wuhan University is one of the earliest universities to set up the major of Editing and Publishing in China. Since the Ministry of Education approved Wuhan University to independently record and establish the doctoral degree authorization point of Publishing under the first-class discipline directory of Library, Information and Archives Management in 2002, the cultivation of doctoral students of Publishing in China has gone through nearly 20 years. As the "Huangpu Military Academy" in the Publishing academic circle, our Publishing discipline construction has always been in the forefront of the country, and has trained a large number of excellent talents for the high-quality development of China's Publishing industry. The Doctoral Academic Consortium was initiated by Wuhan University and undertaken by many well-known universities and research institutions in China, and attracted 124 submissions from 52 universities across the country. After strict review by the paper review committee, 41 papers were selected.
