On the afternoon of March 30, the2nd "Luojia SIM+Youth Talks"was successfully held virtually. It was hosted by our school, and organized by SIM Journal Center and SIM Branch Library. The theme of thisYouth Talks wasTalking about Metaverse.

Xing Zhao, Professor at the School of Data Science, Fudan University

Jiang Wu, Professor and Associate Dean of the SIM,Wuhan University,

andBaiyang Li, postdoctoral fellow of the SIM,Wuhan University.

Dan Ke, Associate Professor at the Economics and Management School, Wuhan University, presided over the event.

Jiang Wu delivered a speech and shared his viewpoints about the theme. He expounded the creation of digital civilization by Metaverse in the era of digital economy, the attention of governments all over the country, the relationship between Metaverse and Library, Information, and Archives Management, and combed the technical system and the research framework of Metaverse users' information behavior from the perspective of Metaverse. He also looked forward to the prospect from the aspects of the Metaverse empowering CCP building, promoting urban-rural integration and helping rural revitalization. He believed that the master of science and technology should be good-oriented. Metaverse, as a “master of science and technology” for goodness, is the core driving force towards higher civilization.

Shunfeng Peng shared the cutting-edge technology application related to Metaverse from the perspective of the industry, and displayed the latest research results of his company, leading the participants to appreciate the mystery of Metaverse. In his sharing, through the spatial display and roaming transformation in the virtual scene, he revealed the characteristics of Metaverse, such as digital twinning, virtual and real symbiosis, spatial leapfrogging, information permanence and so on.

Yang Shen gave a keynote speech on Metaverse. He combed the domestic evolution background of Metaverse from three aspects: six main schools of ancient Chinese philosophy, Qian Xuesen's translation of "Virtual Reality" into “Fairyland”, and the thinking of domestic academic community on Metaverse. With vivid cases, he explained the four standard Metaverse construction steps, which are digital twinning, virtual native, virtual and reality symbiosis and virtual-real linkage, and he concluded Metaverse system framework with three attributes: space-time expansion, man-machine integration and economic value-added, and he pointed out four problems and four prospects of digital collection industry.

The theme of Xing Zhao's sharing was What Can We Do in the Era of Pre-Metaverse. He put forward the concept development of Metaverse, three construction modes of Metaverse, four major changes in the development of Metaverse, new economic operation situation, new social communication mode, new spatial construction mode and information interaction mode, and pointed out that the development of Metaverse might bring five major risks. He believed that at present, we are still in the era of Pre-Metaverse, and in the future, the Metaverse might land in many fields, such as Metaverse commercial complex, venues and supporting virtual spaces for activities.

In the round-table discussion session, Xing Zhao, Jiang Wu and Baiyang Li explored the problems and challenges in the development of the Metaverse from the combined development mechanism of carbon neutrality and Metaverse, the coordination mode and the two-wheel drive mode of carbon neutrality and digital economy, shared their respective solutions, and imagined the future development of Metaverse to solve the digital transformation and energy demand problems in the real world.

This activity was shared synchronously through Xueshuzhi and Bilibili live platform. Nearly 2,000 people from both platforms watched the event.
