It was hosted by our school, and organized by SIM Journal Center, Center for Studies of Information Resources, Wuhan University, and SIM Branch Library. The theme of this Youth Talks was Co-creating Metaverse: Discipline Scene of Theory and Application.

People attended the Youth Talks were as followings:

Xinxin Zhang, Professor at the College of Communication and Art Design, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology,

Cuijuan Xia, Researcher at the Shanghai Library,

Peng Xiao, Associate Professor at the School of Information Management, Sun Yat-sen University,

and Baiyang Li, postdoctoral fellow of the SIM,Wuhan University.

Jiang Wu, Professor and Associate Dean of the SIM,Wuhan University, delivered a speech at the beginning of the sharing.

Combining with his professional background, Xinxin Zhang put forward Rationality and Passion: Thinking of Publishing Vision Based on Metaverse. Firstly, he described the concept and attributes of the Metaverse, analyzed its ontology, values and methods, and discussed its internal functions and research methods. Then, the premise of coupling publishing and Metaverse was put forward from four processes. Finally, based on the long-term perspective, Xinxin Zhang looked forward to the scenarios of virtual-real integration publishing, Metaverse standardization, digital technology principle and application, digital literacy and skills of editors, and the evolution of digital publishing in the future.

Cuijuan Xia's sharing focused on Metaverse and its Applications in Library, Archives and Museum: Digital Memory and Digital Humanities. She believes that Metaverse is a possible digital world in which people can participate and live freely as digital identities, which can be understood as a digital parallel universe beyond the real world. Starting from the application of digital memory and digital humanities, she shared virtual numbers, digital collections, virtual worlds and new digital memory media. From the perspectives of data, algorithm and communication infrastructure, she also discussed the integration and accommodation mechanism, generation and reference mechanism and growth and development mechanism of data intelligence evidence.

Baiyang Li shared Changes and Challenges of Information Resource Management under Blockchain Enabling Web3.0. He believes that with the empowerment of blockchain, Web3.0, which has been explored for a long time in this field, is moving from dream to reality. With the continuous innovation of information technology such as semantic web, distributed database and hash algorithm, the Internet is developing from information Internet to value Internet. Data asset, data association, data factor and data value make data resources receive unprecedented attention. Metaverse is technology integration and scene innovation, and it has strong symbiosis and blending with information resource management research and practice. Under this background, it is of great practical significance to carry out continuous and in-depth research on blockchain enabling Web3.0.

From the perspective of how blind people feel images, Peng Xiao discussed Metaverse Governance Logic from the Perspective of Responsible Innovation. He believes that different disciplines and fields are faced with many governance problems on the way to Metaverse. Metaverse not only has to deal with foreseeable problems such as data privacy, property rights protection and algorithm discrimination, but also has to face new challenges brought by technology combination. Under this background, the "responsible innovation", which emphasizes embedding ethical values and sustainable development ideas into innovation activities, is showing its potential as a Metaverse governance framework and providing new ideological resources for the traditional social and technological governance logic.

In the discussion session, scholars discussed the essence of Metaverse, its relevance and continuity with the research of their respective discipline, how to solve the existing problems from the perspective of Metaverse, and shared the ethics and protection of Metaverse with their respective disciplines.

This activity was shared synchronously through Xueshuzhi and Bilibili live platform. Nearly 1,700 people from both platforms watched the event.
