On the morning of July 8, the opening ceremony of the First Wuhan University Summer School for Graduate Students in Big Data Management and Application was held by a combination of virtual and reality meeting. The Summer Schoolwas hosted by our School, and co-hosted by the Big Data Institute of Wuhan University.

People attended theopening ceremonywere as followings:

Feicheng Ma, Senior Professor of Humanities and Social Sciences at Wuhan University,

Xianzheng Zhang, Associate Dean of the Graduate School, Wuhan University,

Wei Lu, Dean of the SIM, Wuhan University,

Yaolin Jiang, CPC Deputy Secretary of the SIM, Wuhan University,

teachers' representatives of the Department of Big Data Security and Secrecy,

and all students of the Summer School.

Xiaoguang Wang, Associate Dean of the SIM,Wuhan University, presided over the opening ceremony.

In his speech,Feicheng Maoutlined the concept, development and impact of big data, and believed that the rapid development of big data brought great challenges to the field of management and application. In response to the call of the state, our School started the undergraduate major of Big Data Management and Application, which was of great significance to the research and education development related to big data. He suggested that the big data research by our School should focus on the four factors of data, technology, human and organization and their relationships, especially the influence of data on the other three factors.

On behalf of the Graduate School,Xianzheng Zhangcongratulated the successful opening of the Summer School. He believed that the School of Information Management had a solid discipline platform, strong scientific research strength, and faced the strategic needs of the country. On the basis of the traditional Library, Information, and Archives Management, it sticks to the traditional discipline and making innovations to set up a master and doctoral program in Data Science, which would cultivate compound talents in big data management and application for the country, and it would have a demonstration and leading significance in the whole country.

On behalf of the SIM,Wei Luextended a warm welcome to all the Summer School students, and expressed heartfelt thanks to people from all walks of life who have long cared for and supported the development of the School. He pointed out that, driven by the development of the national big data strategy, the major ofBig Data Management and Applicationwill usher in unprecedented development opportunities, and the talents of big data management and application will also usher in a broad development platform. It was of great historical significance to open the Summer School for Graduate Students in Big Data Management and Application at the time. We warmly welcome young students to study and work here to jointly promote the development of big data management and application. He hoped that all the students would take this opportunity to make more friends, exchange and discuss ideas, and learn from each other, and wish the Summer School a complete success.

After the opening ceremony, the experts took a group photo with onsite Summer School students.

A total of 284 candidates signed up for this Summer School, and 61 students were admitted to participate. During the week-long activity, more than 20 well-known scholars and industry experts from all over the world in the field of big data management and application would conduct teaching through lectures, forums, case study, platform visits and professional training, so that students could have an in-depth understanding of the frontier information and latest development of data science research and practice.
