Digital Power Empowered Humanistic Communication: Sub-forum on "Cultural Heritage and Digital Humanities" was Successfully Held by the School of Information Management at Wuhan University and École Nationale des Chartes

In response to Wuhan University's initiative to deepen the dialogue and exchange of humanities and social sciences and promote international academic cooperation and civilization, Wuhan University's the 4th Overseas Academic Week: "The Flow and Protection of Culture and Civilization", was held in Paris, France, October 15-18, 2019. Our school, in cooperation with École Nationale des Chartes, had undertaken the sub-forum on "Cultural Heritage and Digital Humanities". The forum invited experts and scholars from La Bibliothèque Nationale de France, the British Library, the University College London, Université de Lausanne, Institut National D'Histoire De L'Art, the Jean-Mabillon Centre for Cultural Heritage Research in France, the Digital Centre of Observatoire de Paris, École Nationale des Chartes, and the School of Information Management, the School of History, College of Liberal Arts at Wuhan University. Qizhu Tang, Vice-President of Wuhan University, attended the welcome dinner and exchanged views with École Nationale des Chartes on how to continue to enhance cooperation with the School of Information Management.

 

The opening ceremony of the forum was presided over by the director of the Jean-Mabillon Centre for Cultural Heritage Research in France, Frederic Duval, and the dean of the School of Information Management, Qing Fang. Professor Qing Fang introduced the important position of the School of Information Management at Wuhan University in the training of talents and scientific research in public cultural fields such as libraries, archives, publishing and distribution and so on, especially the achievements in digital humanities and related field to the European cultural heritage researchers. In the forum, scholars from China, France, Britain, Italy and other countries carried out in-depth discussions on the application of digital technology in traditional humanities research and the services of cultural institutions such as libraries, museums and archives.

 

In addition, at the closing ceremony of the sub-forum on "Cultural Heritage and Digital Humanities", Ms. Michelle Bubenicek, president of École Nationale des Chartes, formally invited the School of Information Management and Wuhan University to attend the celebration ceremony of the 200th anniversary of the establishement of École Nationale des Chartes (1821-2021). At the same time, Qing Fang, dean of the School of Information Management at Wuhan University, also sincerely invited École Nationale des Chartes and experts from the European cultural heritage institutions to attend the upcoming 100th anniversary of the establishment of the School of Information Management at Wuhan University in 2020.

 

On October 18, École Nationale des Chartes also held further exchanges and discussions with the School of Information Management at Wuhan University on the summer school of Sino-Europe intangible cultural heritage, principles and approaches of Sino-French cultural heritage preservation, exchanges of students and teachers, and etc.
