Teachers and Students of Our School Went to Australia to Participated in ASIS&T 82nd Annual Meeting

Association for Information Science & Technology (ASIS&T) 82nd Annual Meeting was held in Melbourne, Australia from October 19 to 23, 2019. Prof. Dan Wu, Prof. Rongying Zhao, Prof. Siluo Yang, Prof. Tingting Jiang, associate professor Weiwei Yan, associate researcher Jin Mao, teacher Jinchao Zhang and teacher Nian Ding with several PhD students, postgraduate and undergraduate students participated in the meeting.

ASIS&T Annual Meeting is hosted by the Association for Information Science and Technology, which is the top international academic conference in the field of information science and technology. The theme of this annual meeting was when information was delivered to the right person in the right way at the right place and right time, it could cause major changes in economic, social, scientific, political and personal behavior. The meeting was composed by 18 paper sessions, 20 panel and alternative events, 5 workshops, 4 tutorials, 8 international incubator sessions, poster demonstration and doctoral consortium. The meeting covered hot topics in information science such as health information, digital humanities, information behavior, informetrics, online communication and information retrieval, open access, government data, and etc.

 

This meeting attracted more than 400 scholars from all over the world. There were 84 participants from the China mainland except for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. Among them, three papers written by Prof. Xiaoguang Wang, Prof. Rongying Zhao and Prof. Siluo Yang respectively were accepted and presented. 14 posters designed by Prof. Tingting Jiang, associate professor Weiwei Yan and others were accepted, and several teachers and students participated in the doctoral consortium. Prof. Dan Wu served as the Poster Co-Chair of Program Committee in this meeting. Moreover, Prof. Dan Wu hosted “Privacy and Trust” Sub Forum and co-organized the international incubator session of “Breaking Social Media Bubbles for Information Globalization” and panels of “Data Science Education in the iSchool Context”. Teachers and students of our school actively participated in various activities, carried out profound exchanges with domestic and foreign experts on diverse research topics. The fruitful results and practical and diligent spirit had won great praise from scholars.

 

In addition, teachers of our school promoted the upcoming events of our school during the meeting, such as the ACM/IEEE Joint Conference on Digital Library 2020 and ASIS&T Asia-Pacific Regional Conference 2020 to be held at our school. Many scholars expressed great anticipation for the two events next year. The English journal "Data and Information Management" managed by our school was actively be publicized and widely called for papers during the meeting, which further enhanced the popularity and international influence of the English journal.
