In order to further implement The Implementation Plan of Luojia Forum on "The Revolution of Teaching and Learning" carried out by the School of Information Management, promote deep integration of information technology and classroom teaching, promote the revolution of classroom teaching, and constantly improve the quality of classroom teaching, on the evening of September 23, our school held the special lecture of Rethinking Teaching in the Digital Age on the network platform Zoom, which was one of the series activities of "The Revolution of Teaching and Learning". Professor Michael Seadle, former Dean of the School of Library and Information Science of Humboldt University, Executive Director of iSchools Inc. and world famous expert in Library and Information field, was invited to give the special lecture.

Combined with his rich life experience and teaching experience, Michael Seadle made a profound interpretation of education issues from the aspects of content and analysis in the digital age, tools and training and online teaching in the digital age. He pointed out that in terms of content, the digital age had brought us great and profound changes. Textbooks and monographs were less. On the contrary, people began to use more journal papers and data, and it was more difficult to evaluate the quality of information content, which had gradually become a core issue. At the same time, the acquisition of information content became more difficult. More information was not presented in the form of traditional directory, many ancient resources became unavailable, and many new information was loose and lack of structure. In view of the change of information content in the digital age, as educators, we need to share information with colleagues and cooperate with each other better.

Michael Seadle said the information revolution in the digital age has made it more difficult to interpret information content. We would encounter more unfamiliar information, a lot of information did not follow the familiar paradigm, but also more information became untrustworthy. To meet these challenges, as educators, we need to constantly learn new skills, such as programming and mathematical statistics. Many new information tools emerged, including retrieval tools, digital content recognition tools, qualitative analysis tools, mathematical statistics tools, programming tools and so on. These elements of the times together gave birth to new teaching and training methods, such as self-learning method, game-based learning method, content-based learning method and so on. As educators, we need to constantly innovate and upgrade our own teaching system to adapt to the changing environment of the times.

Michael Seadle pointed out that in the change of teaching system, a great change worthy of attention was the rapid development of online teaching. More and more educators began to carry out online teaching. They also experience the loss of body signals in direct interaction, the quality problems of online audio and video, the contradiction between static and dynamic teaching, and the changes of audience feedback signals.

Michael Seadle believed that education in the digital age has undergone profound changes as the world environment changes. Technology had helped educators break through many of the original limitations. Every educator, like He Zheng, the navigator of Ming Dynasty, sailed in an unknown area of water. The digital age was an information age. As educators, we have the responsibility and obligation to help our students deeply understand and adapt to this changing era.

In the lecture, our teachers and Michael Seadle had a heated discussion on the fairness of online education, the way students participate, and the similarities and differences between online education conducted by authoritative experts and educators. The lecture was a complete success and received a good response from the teachers and students of our school. Through this lecture, teachers had a further understanding of the undergraduate education in the information field under the background of the digital age, which was helpful to improve the teaching quality and greatly promote the teachers to better deal with the revolution of teaching and learning brought by the digital era.
