On October 18, The Centennial of School of Information Management, Wuhan University and Development Forum of Library, Information and Data Science was held in the conference hall of Wuhan University Library.

President Xiankang Dou delivered a speech and warmly congratulated the School of Information Management on its achievements in the past century. He pointed out that the School of Information Management is a beautiful business card of Humanities and Social Science of Wuhan University. For hundreds of years, the school has dared to be the first, pursue excellence, strive for excellence, strive for success, has a group of experienced professionals and technology specialists, great talents emerge in large numbers. Scholars have passed on from generation to generation, and have written a magnificent chapter in the history of China’s Library, Information and Archival Management education; and always holding the pulse of the development of the times, it has made outstanding contributions to the national information development and the strategy of cultural power. He hoped that the School of Information Management could seize the important historical opportunities, keep the right and bring forth the new, carry forward the cause pioneered by predecessors and forge ahead into the future, on the basis of maintaining the advantages of traditional disciplines, rooted in China, and seize the development opportunity, innovate the discipline paradigm and talent training system, promote the new development of the discipline; adhere to the concept of practical application of the world, practice "four services", and constantly enhance the ability to serve the national major strategic needs, make new and greater contributions to the development of the country and society; firmly grasp the key elements of talents, increase the education of high-end talents and top-notch innovative talents among middle and young people, and create a stronger "School of Information Management talents matrix" to promote the quality of teaching and research, the level of discipline construction and the effectiveness of talent training, and promote the high-quality development of the school.

Experts from international organizations and foreign universities and institutions expressed their congratulations through video and expressed their gratitude for the positive role played by the School of Information Management in promoting international education and international academic exchanges. Michael Seadle, Executive Chairman of iSchools and Professor at Humboldt University in Germany, highly praised the role of SIM in the international alliance of top information schools and in the development of international informatics research and education. He looked forward to continuous cooperation and wished the school a brilliant future in the next century. Gobinda Chowdhury, President of iSchools, Professor at the University of Strathclyde, UK, Clara Chu, President of the American Society for Information Science and Technology, ASIS&T, and Professor at University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, Michelle Bubenicek, President of the French National Charter Institute, and David enske, Honorary President of the University of Drexel in the United States of America, congratulated the SIM on its new achievements.

Huiling Feng highly affirmed the outstanding achievements made by the SIM in the research and education of Library, Information and Archival Management in China. She hoped that the school could continuously expand the discipline space around the information characteristics, provide digital support and digital empowerment for national development, and strive to open a new grand blueprint and historical chapter for the new century.

During the conference, young teachers and student representatives of SIM presented flowers to representatives of senior teachers, such as Feizhang Peng, Mingkang Deng, Changya Wang, Zhuohua Xie, Xiulan Wang, Deyou Zhan, Changping Hu, Yufeng Zhang, Feicheng Ma, Junping Qiu, Rongshan Zhang, Xiangxing Shen, Jianmin Li, Gengxin Sun and Xiping Fu, expressing their respect and thanks to the senior teachers.

Xuzhou Zhou deeply recalled his seven years of study in the School of Information Management. He said that the school's atmosphere of seeking truth and pragmatism and integrating knowledge with practice is a valuable asset that has affected his whole life. Alma mater is a harbor for mind rest,and in his career development, he has been interacting with Wuhan University frequently. He has nurtured the university through donation. "This is the happiness of my life, and my alma mater has given me the glory of my life." He said that he would give back to his alma mater and school through continuous donation, and contribute to the construction of the school and university.

Taiyan Huang extended warm congratulations on the centenary of the School of Information Management, and expressed his heartfelt greetings to the teachers and students. He looked back on the past and appreciated the nourishment of Library Science, the cultivation of Wuhan University and the changes of the school. He reviewed the course of three school space adjustments and pointed out that this was not only the growth of quantity, but also the improvement of quality. The school has trained a large number of senior professionals in information management for the country, and has made important contributions to the development of national public culture and information industry. He hoped that the school would seize the new historical opportunity and create new brilliance on the basis of the existing solid foundation.

Dongbo Wang read a congratulatory letter from Quan Rao, Director of the National Library of China. Quan Rao highly affirmed the achievements made by the School of Information Management of Wuhan University in the process of leading the modernization and informatization of the library at home and abroad and the contribution to the prosperity and development of library and information institutions. Rao Quan hoped that through strengthening the strategic cooperation with SIM, we could jointly contribute to the development of national cultural undertakings. As a student of the school, Dongbo Wang sincerely wishes the school a new chapter.

Jiuzhen Zhang, Director of the Department of Information Management of Peking University, delivered a speech as a representative of other schools and departments. She highly affirmed the achievements of the School of Information Management of Wuhan University in various aspects, and believed that the school has led and promoted the development of Library and Information industry in China. She proposed that we should bear in mind the historical contributions of the older generation of scholars and jointly promote the integration and development of information management and other disciplines. She hoped to strengthen exchanges and cooperation between the two universities, promote win-win results, and make greater contributions to the national library and information industry.

In Feicheng Ma’s speech, he pointed out that the one hundred years the school has gone through is an extraordinary one. Today's glory and achievements are the result of several generations of teachers, which are worthy of commemoration and congratulations. The centennial development of the school is the history of grasping the key nodes, facing difficulties, seizing opportunities, optimizing resources and strengthening disciplines. He hopes that under the new liberal arts strategy, the school will further transform its thinking, develop in coordination, and integrate with each other to strive for greater progress.

Muyan Li, a 2020-year-grade doctoral candidate, spoke as a representative of the current students. She described her seven-year growth process in the school, expressed her love for the school and her gratitude to the teachers for their meticulous training. She said that the students of SIM should clearly define their roles and responsibilities, serve as the wisdom of public life, provide support for industry, transfer knowledge for social development, firmly protect national culture, record history for national construction, and manage information for human beings.

Wei Lu, Dean of the School of Information Management of Wuhan University, pointed out that the rapid development of information technology and the explosive growth of data have put forward higher requirements for the education and personnel training of Library and Information and Data Science, and the development road of Library and Information and Data Science with Chinese characteristics has also ushered in new opportunities. The school has the responsibility and willingness to work with colleagues in the academic circles and the industry, join hands to stride into a new era of Library Information and Data Science.

Focusing on learning and seeking common development, the school held a series of academic activities on the same day, including: Academic Frontier Seminar of Library, Information and Data Science, Seminar on the Cultivation of Talents of Library, Information and Data Science, Seminar on the Development of Mother School, Seminar on the Cultivation of Talents of Secrecy, Seminar on the Construction and Development of First-class Discipline of E-commerce, and the Exchange Meeting between the School of Information Management and the National Library of China.

In addition, the school has recently held the exhibition of postgraduate scientific research achievements, the signing ceremony of Mr. Feizhang Peng and Mingkang Deng's donation to Wuhan University and the new book release of Self Narration of Feizhang Peng, A Librarian, the unveiling ceremony of Wenhua Fu memorial stone, the premiere of Dihua Wei special documentary film, and the signing of strategic cooperation agreement between Wuhan University and Shenzhen Smart City Science and Technology Development Group Co., Ltd., seminar on the development of Publishing discipline, master's and doctor's forum of archival science, alumni's forum, professional cognition lecture of Department of Information Management Science and other related activities.
