On the afternoon of October 18, the Seminar on Talent Training of Library Information and Data Science was held in the Sanxin Lecture Hall of School of Information Management, Wuhan University.

Qinghua Zhou recalled the hard teaching conditions when he was studying, praised the fruitful achievements of his mother school in the past 100 years, and expressed his blessing on mother school’s birthday. He introduced the publishing industry from government-affiliated institution to the industry and the process of large-scale development. According to the needs of the industry, Qinghua Zhou suggested that the school should further build a reasonable knowledge structure and teaching system, strengthen the combination of production, teaching and research, and encourage students to practice in the industry. He hoped that students would pay attention to improve their ideological and political quality, and actively think about how to continuously expand their knowledge and strengthen professional learning in the digital era.
Yuanchu Li lamented the development of teaching facilities and school running conditions in the past 100 years and the good learning atmosphere of the students of the School of Information Management. Combined with his own work experience, Yuanchu Li pointed out that under the background of rapid development of informatization, the discipline has given us information literacy, information concept and overall view, which is our unique discipline advantage, which is of great significance for career planning and growth. To solve the problem of innovation and entrepreneurship, Yuanchu Li suggested that students should first improve their skills, accumulate resources, form teams in relevant industries, and then engage in entrepreneurship. At the same time, he suggested that the school should train students' ability to independently write practical reports such as industry research, and strengthen the cultivation of students' communication ability and information literacy.
He Lei recalled his study experience in the mother school. Combined with his own experience, he believed that the major was only a stepping stone to enter the society and industry, and the ability of career migration and change management was more important, and we should maintain the attitude of self-improvement and continuous progress. Facing the era of big data, He Lei pointed out that students need to pay attention to personal integrity records and information records, and simultaneously complete the work of career, family and education. He proposed that the development of students into society can be divided into professional line and management line. Students should strengthen their ability to collect, integrate and utilize resources, and exercise their communication ability. He also suggested that the school should add interdisciplinary knowledge such as management and accounting in the curriculum design.
Weicheng Liu shared his learning experience, reviewed the rigorous academic spirit of the teachers in the mother school, and recalled Feizhang Peng's earnest instruction in encouraging everyone to "be a man" and "learn". He introduced the changes of library from card catalogue to open shelf reading and then to smart library. He said that the discipline of library science can also see the importance of artificial intelligence technology, information technology and other scientific frontiers in the discipline layout and curriculum setting. Weicheng Liu suggested that students should always keep the good habits of reading, learning and communication, strengthen the basic quality, professional quality and enthusiasm of the discipline, find their own development direction and make persistent efforts for it.
Yong Li described his confusion and thinking in his early career seeking. Combined with his own experience in the work of science and technology information institutions, he proposed that under the background of the widespread popularity of the Internet, information science teaching must be combined with the actual working scene. Therefore, we can learn from the experience of foreign countries. Yong Li suggested that the school should think more about the industry orientation in talent training, face the changes of industrial structure, and consider the actual needs of the industry in the curriculum setting, so as to help students realize the transition and integration from academic to industry.
Haining Wang recalled his career experience, inspired students to think more about what kind of person they want to be, encouraged students to seize the opportunity of the times, seize the fastest growing field, and combine with their own interests and expertise. Haining Wang pointed out that college students need to strengthen their professional quality and cultivate their thinking concept. They should not only attach importance to learning, but also cultivate their comprehensive ability, learn to live and become "interesting" people. In view of the entrepreneurial activities, Haining Wang put forward that the key to the success of entrepreneurs lies in whether they have unique long board advantages. College students need to consider the difficulties of successful entrepreneurship, and consider whether they have unique energy, enthusiasm and talent.
Facing the new situation of opportunities and challenges, this seminar discussed the discipline talent training system, training methods and training experience, and clarified the development goal and direction of Library Information and Data Science talent training in the new period. At the foot of Luojia Mountain, we would take this seminar as an opportunity to further explore the talent cultivation path of the discipline under the new information environment and demand, stimulate the new vitality of the discipline, promote the high-quality development of the discipline, and cultivate more pillar talents.
