Ying Huang, Associate Professor at the School of Information Management, Wuhan University, and Lin Zhang, Professor at the School of Information Management, Wuhan University, serve as the chief scientists. Global Enterprise Innovation Index 2023 (GEII 2023) was jointly completed by Wuhan Data Intelligence Research Institute, Big Data Institute of Wuhan University, Science and Education Management and Evaluation Center of Wuhan University, School of Information Management, Wuhan University, and Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China.

Zhuanghai Shen pointed out that with the new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation booming, developing strategic emerging industries has become a major strategy for all countries in the world to seize the commanding heights of economic and technological development. Therefore, it is of great significance to build and strengthen superior scientific and technological forces such as leading enterprises in major frontier technology fields to promote the development of global scientific and technological innovation. He placed high hopes on the report of Global Enterprise Innovation Index 2023 (GEII 2023), pointing out that GEII 2023 has insight into the innovation trends of related enterprises in different strategic emerging industries, so as to visually present and trace the overall picture of the current global innovation development, and on behalf of the R&D team of GEII 2023, he sincerely invited experts, scholars, entrepreneurs and policy makers to pay attention and put forward suggestions.

Feicheng Ma presented the main findings of Global Enterprise Innovation Index 2023 (GEII 2023) from four parts: research background, index system, global development trend and portfolio of industrial innovation.

GEII 2023 shows that the Asian region has broken the traditional European and American duopoly and basically formed a tripartite development pattern of "East Asia-North America-Europe". The scientific and technological innovation performance of enterprises in China is remarkable, and State Grid Corporation of China and Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. have become the models of Chinese innovation system. China has shown strong competitiveness in the field of new generation information technology, with 16 enterprises breaking into the top 100. Generally speaking, the scientific research strength of enterprises in China is outstanding, but the influence and diffusion of knowledge innovation need to be further improved. In the field of advanced manufacturing, five enterprises in China rank among the top 20 in knowledge innovation, which shows the strong strength of China enterprises in basic scientific research in the field of advanced manufacturing, especially in the output of knowledge innovation, which has potential advantages as a latecomer. In the field of new energy, seven enterprises in China have entered the top 100, and State Grid, Huawei and OPPO are at the leading development position in the field of new energy. In the field of biomedicine, China enterprises only occupy four seats in the list of the world top 100, and they are all relatively backward in the rankings of knowledge innovation, technological innovation and innovation cooperation, so the overall level of scientific and technological innovation still need much more development.

State Grid focuses on promoting green development and researching key core technologies. Its comprehensive level of scientific and technological innovation in the field of new energy ranks second in the world, and it also performs well in the fields of advanced manufacturing, new materials and new generation information technology. As a super-large state-owned enterprise, State Grid not only has a huge group of inventors, but also actively participates in technical cooperation activities, and its number of international cooperation papers and patents remains at the leading level. Different from state-owned enterprises, private enterprises still have many bottlenecks when participating in major national innovations, and private enterprises represented by Huawei have risen strongly in recent years. Huawei ranks sixth in the comprehensive level of scientific and technological innovation, and ranks among the top ten in the global comprehensive level of scientific and technological innovation in the fields of new energy, advanced manufacturing, new materials and new generation information technology. Huawei continues to open its platform capabilities such as HarmonyOS, Kunpeng, Shengteng and cloud services, and is one of the largest patent holders in the world, especially in the new generation of information technology.
