Professor Michael Sheng was Employed as Guest Professor

Michael Sheng, Professor at the School of Computing, Macquarie University, was employed as guest professor in our School on July 2. Michael Sheng also gave an academic report to nearly 100 teachers and students on the theme of Internet of Things and population aging.

Wei Lu, Dean of our School, presented a letter of appointment to Michael Sheng as guest professor. Xiaoguang Wang, Professor and Associate Dean of our School, Quan Lu, Director of the Department of Information Management Science of our School, Rongying Zhao, Director of the Research Center for Chinese Science Evaluation of Wuhan University, Professor at the Department of Information Management Science, Jia Wu, Professor at the School of Computing, Macquarie University, also attended the appointment ceremony.

Jiang Wu, Professor and Associate Dean of our School, presided over the ceremony.

The title of Michael Sheng's report was AIoT Sensing for Aging Well: Research Activities and Future Directions. He first introduced Macquarie University and School of Computing, and expressed his hope of welcoming teachers and students of our School to have academic exchanges. Michael Sheng elaborated the related research of Internet of Things, and reviewed the development of internet and Internet of Things (IoT) from Internet of Things (IoT): an overview, IoT research projects and future directions. With the development of Internet of Things and artificial intelligence, health care for the elderly has been widely concerned. He introduced the progress of relevant research, and analyzed the challenges faced by current research, including trust building, security and privacy. In view of the future research direction, he gave in-depth and unique thoughts and opinions.

Michael Sheng's report made the teachers and students realize scientists constant pursuit of improving the quality of life of human beings, especially the elderly, with science and technology, and felt a kind of humanistic care, which also made everyone have a deeper understanding of smart pension. In the Q & A session, Michael Sheng gave a comprehensive and informative response to the performance difference between the old man's fall detection method proposed by teachers and students and the traditional CV-based method, the brain signal capture, the application of large model and the joint education program with Macquarie University.

Michael Sheng is Distinguished Professor and Dean of the School of Computing, Macquarie University. He was rated as one of the most influential scholars in the field of service computing by Microsoft Academic, and the most influential scholar in AMiner Internet of Things. He is also the winner of ARC Future Fellowship, Chris Wallace Outstanding Contribution Award and Microsoft Research Scholarship.
