From April 18 to April 20, Mr. Peng Feizhang's Academic Thoughts Seminar was held at School of Information Management, Wuhan University. Mr. Peng Feizhang has committed himself to the teaching and research work for 66 years on the theories and methods of bibliography and social sciences information, he proposed the “contradictory theory” on the research object of bibliography, introduced the concept of “bibliographic information", created the modern bibliography system, actively promoted the establishment of the first-level discipline of Library, Information and Archival Management, and strived across the country to succeed in setting up PhD programs of Library Science and Information Science. Mr. Peng has made pioneering achievements especially in the research on Library Science and Bibliography, and he has made important contributions to the development of the discipline.

The conference was hosted by School of Information Management, Wuhan University. The objectives of the seminar was to study Mr. Peng Feizhang's academic thoughts, explore the education philosophy of Mr. Peng Feizhang, and promote the development of discipline and education. More than 120 experts from about 40 library academia and industry organizations attended the conference. The library academia and industry organizations were as follows:

Peking University, Renmin University of China, Nanjing University, Nankai University, Sun Yat-sen University, Sichuan University, Jilin University, East China Normal University, Shanghai University, Nanjing University of Science & Technology, Nanjing Agricultural University, Huazhong Agricultural University, Central China Normal University, Southwest University, Xiangtan University, Anhui University, Hebei University, Hubei University, Tianjin Normal University, Hunan City University, Jianghuai College of Anhui University and other universities, Library Society of China, Library Society of Hubei, National Library of China, Hubei Provincial Library, Wuhan Library and other libraries, National Library of China Publishing House, Hubei Sanxin Culture Media Co., Ltd.and other related institutions, as well as National Chengchi University and Shih Hsin University in Taiwan.

The opening ceremony was held on the morning of April 19, and was hosted by Fu Xingrong, Secretary of the Party Committee of School of Information Management, Wuhan University. Han Jin, Secretary of the Party Committee of Wuhan University, delivered a speech first. Secretary Han introduced the lifetime of Mr. Peng Feizhang and his major contributions to the construction and development of Library Information and Bibliography, he expressed his vision for future discipline construction, and wished the conference a complete success.

Subsequently, Professor Cheng Huanwen, an executive committee member of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) and vice president of the Library Society of China delivered a speech. Professor Cheng was on behalf of the IFLA, Library Society of China, and the Higher Education Library and Information Work Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, he congratulated the opening of the conference, and made a comprehensive review of the development of Library Science and the important construction of Mr. Peng in Library Science discipline.

Professor Fang Qing, the Dean of the School of Information Management, Wuhan University, expressed his congratulations on the convening of the conference on behalf of the school, and he would like to study the discipline construction process of Mr. Peng seriously with new technical background, new political and economic background, and new Double First-class discipline construction background so as to enlighten the construction of contemporary Library and Information discipline.

In the speech session, Mr. Peng Feizhang reviewed the development history of Boone Library School and his study experience at Wuhan University. He talked about the experience and ideas of the education of Library and Information Science in the past 66 years, expressed his gratitude to his Alma Mater and participants, and also expressed his best wishes for the future development of Wuhan University and our school.

The keynote speech was hosted by Professor Fang Qing, the Dean of the School of Information Management at Wuhan University. The keynote speeches were delivered by ProfessorMa Feicheng, Senior Professor of Humanities and Social Sciences of Wuhan University, Researcher Wang Dongbo, Deputy Director ofNational Library of China,Professor Zhuang Daoming, School of Journalism and Communication at Shin Hsin University, Professor Li Guangjian, the Director of Department of Information Management at Peking University, Professor He Ding'an, Party Secretary of Hubei Provincial Library. Professor Wang Meiling, at NCCU Graduate Institute of Library, Information and Archival Studies, read a message from Mr. Hu ShuChao to Mr. Peng and expressed respect for Mr. Peng from Taiwan library academia. Professor Chen Chuanfu, the Dean of the Graduate School of Wuhan University, made a keynote speech entitled with"A Mixture of Academic Achievements and Morality--A Preliminary Study of Mr. Peng Feizhang's Thoughts on Academic Studies". The speech elaborated Mr. Peng's academic thoughts from five perspectives: academic history, academic research, discipline construction, academic ethics and academic thoughts. The speech was summarized by Professor Fang Qing, the Dean of the School of Information Management, Wuhan University. While affirming Professor Chen’s report, he believed that Mr. Peng is a well-deserved academic leader in China's library science. Mr. Peng's academic thoughts is also a huge treasure. It fosters and guides every scholar in Library and Information science to keep moving forward.

On the afternoon of April 19, Mr. Peng Feizhang's academic thoughts seminar was held at the School of Information Management, Wuhan University. The seminar was hosted by Professor Wang Xincai, the Director of Wuhan University Library. Participants expressed that they would follow the example of Mr. Peng Feizhang, learn and carry forward Mr. Peng's noble spirit of scholarship, and spread his academic thoughts, and strive to study and develop continuously.
